fashionTrade is a tech company founded to solve an important problem: How can fashion brands and retailers trade wholesale more simply? fashionTrade is the smart and simple wholesale trading solution for fashion brands and retailers around the world. It has been purpose-built to solve some of the biggest challenges that brands and retailers in the fashion industry face. Since 2017, fashionTrade is a joint venture between Zalando and Bestseller United.

Our company culture

fashionTrade is a small but dedicated team of 30+ international colleagues working in the centre of Amsterdam. fashionTrade encompasses a true startup environment with focused professionals who value entrepreneurship, flexibility, commitment, transparency and above all fun. Our office is located in TQ, a curated tech hub that gathers a community of international tech start-ups. As a young company with solid funding, insightful knowledge into the fashion industry and invaluable connections – the biggest offer we have for you is the opportunity for long-term growth, impact and learning.

Our tech team and culture is built on 4 important pillars:

Engineering Agility

Our solution can move where the market moves. We use continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines for deployment. We rely on cloud infrastructure for scalability and flexibility. We make pragmatic use of (micro-)services for a loosely coupled architecture.

Superior User Experience

We will not have users if our product is unusable. We are not creating a run-of-the-mill enterprise product. We are helping our users do business - which also means our software should not get in the way. We achieve this with a focus on interactions and by aiming for the right combination between mobile and desktop (web).

Scalability

Scaling up or out must be an automated process, not a manual one. We are a small team and operate in a dynamic environment with unpredictable capacity requirements. We use automation, programmable infrastructure and cloud to make sure scaling the solution does not require scaling the team.

Data-driven Insights

You cannot improve what you do not measure. This is why we have tracking in our software from the get-go. Using this data to measure how our product is performing and how we help our users improve their business is one of our main focuses. fashionTrade aims to make the use of data a true differentiator for our service.

About You and Job Responsibilities

You’re pragmatic, learn quickly, and have a proven track record of experience. You communicate well and enjoy working in a startup team. Above all, you’re curious about the world and passionate about what you do.

You are a software engineer at heart and you’ve chosen JavaScript as your language of specialisation. You feel comfortable with the browser as a run-time. You understand the benefits and drawbacks of different frameworks at the conceptual level as well as the implications on implementation. What happens on the backend is not magic to you; it’s just a different specialisation and you are comfortable acting as part of the full stack team. On top of that, these describe you:

  • Excellence in JavaScript.
  • HTML / CSS savvy.
  • Working proficiency with one of the popular frontend frameworks, e.g.: Angular, React, Ember, Vue.js.
  • Experience with frontend builds (e.g.: using grunt / gulp / bower / npm / webpack).
  • Appreciation of practical Test Driven Development.
  • Experience using git and version control workflows.
  • Experience with REST APIs.

Our Stack

  • Vanilla JavaScript (ES6)
  • React + Redux
  • Webpack
  • SASS / Styled Components
