Great, so do we. At Tech Will Save Us we create make-it-yourself kits, apps and experiences that help kids all over the world to make, play, code and invent using technology. And you can help!

We are looking for an experienced Full-stack Developer to work alongside our Lead Developer and product team as we build the most fun and accessible toy brand for the next generation of makers.

We started in 2012, packing kits on a kitchen table and have now sold over hundreds of thousands of kits in 97 countries! Our kits are in the MoMA in New York and the Design Museum in London.

We’re a growing team of designers, engineers, marketers, educators, content producers, production specialists, support reps, financiers and salespeople.

At Tech Will Save Us, you will be a product focused developer. You’ll be solving real customer problems with your technical knowledge and tools, not just writing code. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary product team, where you will build both back-end and front-end systems, and work closely with designers and product managers. The role will involve:

  • Building engaging, easy-to-use, accessible interfaces that delight and empower users
  • Building well designed, well tested APIs and services to be consumed within our web and mobile applications
  • Helping define the technologies, tools and processes used by the product development team
  • Helping to create a maintainable and scalable technology stack
  • Regularly participating in cross functional experimentation and strategy across the customer experience
  • Helping mentor and develop the skills of the development team as it grows

Requirements

There is no such thing as a template Tech Will Save Us team member! In all likelihood though, to be comfortable in this role and able to perform at a high level, you will have:

Essential

  • 3+ years professional experience
  • Experience with modern JavaScript/CSS/HTML development, testing and debugging techniques.
  • A track record of using modern, component-based JavaScript frameworks to build web/mobile applications. The majority of our applications are written using React (Native) but if you’re experienced with Vue/Angular/Svelte or another similar framework we’d still love to hear from you.
  • A track record of building robust backend APIs and services using any language. We currently use Node/Express/MongoDB and various parts of AWS when the need arises.
  • Good understanding of common accessibility issues and the ability to solve them
  • Good understanding of web performance
  • A desire to elevate the customer needs and contribute more to a product than simply the code being written.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with / desire to learn TypeScript
  • Experience with / desire to learn functional programming techniques
  • Experience with games development
  • Experience with block based programming
  • Experience working in a collaborative design environment
  • Experience with / or understanding of lean product development processes
  • Experience with analytics instrumentation and measuring the success of your work
